Movie Review-----COLUMBUS CIRCLE
Sometimes even straight to DVD movies deserve a little love.... COLUMBUS CIRCLE did not receive a Theatrical Release and has been sitting on a shelf since 2010. How it appeared in my mailbox is due to a Netflix error. I was supposed to get the new released Blu-Ray of CHINATOWN since I have never seen it and suddenly COLUMBUS CIRCLE showed up. I reported the problem, looked up what this particular movie was, and after seeing a few of the actors in it, I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm actually glad that I did. It proved to be a rather diverting 80 minutes with a few jolts and some worthwhile performances. When her next door neighbor is murdered, an agoraphobic Manhattan heiress (Selma Blair) who hasn't left her apartment in decades finds herself forced to deal with the detective (Giovanni Ribisi) investigating the case and the new couple (Jason Lee and Amy Smart) who move into the dead woman's apartment. Beau Bridges is also on hand in a slick supporting role. The movie moves so quickly that it's over before you know it. There are some nice Hitchcockian touches to it and the screenplay actually does throw a few surprises your way. Selma Blair is effective and I have always been a fan of Giovanni Ribisi. COLUMBUS CIRCLE isn't a title that is going to make anyone run to put it in their Netflix queue, but if you happen to come across it on late night cable or if by some chance it gets accidentally sent to you, check it out. You could find worse ways to spend an hour and a half.
